Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community

Venable has long been a supporter of the lesbian and gay community – both within and beyond the firm's walls. Openly gay and lesbian attorneys can be found at the associate, counsel, and partner levels and serve on prominent committees and in other high-profile roles at Venable.

The firm's management team has tasked the Diversity Committee with devising ways to strengthen and to expand Venable's support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. For example, the Diversity Committee hosted a brown bag lunch to discuss the interests of LGBT staff at the firm. And in 2010, the firm invited Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler to speak about his long-awaited opinion recognizing same-sex marriages in the state of Maryland.

Many of our attorneys and staff work actively with respect to issues that affect, or are of interest to, the lesbian and gay community. For instance, Venable has provided pro bono representation to under-resourced lesbian and gay clients of the Whitman Walker Clinic, participated in and supported conferences like Lavender Law, and continued membership in non-profit and professional organizations such as the Williams Institute.
