Inside Cybersecurity featured comments by Ari Schwartz on May 24, 2018, on the possibility of Congress adopting a national data-breach reporting standard in the wake of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) during a panel discussion at the Georgetown Cybersecurity Law Institute's conference.

During the conference, implementation of GDPR permeated the discussions by lawyers who said the impacts on U.S. businesses will be sweeping, even while the details of the EU's upcoming enforcement of the rule remain unclear.

Mr. Schwartz said, "He was pessimistic that anything would be moving on Capitol Hill anytime soon. He advocated industry-based standards that follow the voluntary cybersecurity approach championed by the Obama administration."
