Venable served as real estate and construction counsel for The Flea Theater in connection with its new 11,300-square foot, three-theater space in Tribeca. The company is relocating from a rented space located a few blocks north. In addition to the three theaters and lobby space, the silver LEED-compliant development includes office, technical, and administrative space for the company.

Venable advised The Flea in connection with the negotiation of the construction, design, and architect agreements; license agreements with adjoining property owners; zoning approvals; and public and private funding. The official opening for the new space is September 28, 2017.

Peter Britell, who retired from Venable in 2017, had been advising The Flea since 2012. Several other members of Venable’s New York real estate practice, including Michael C. Phillipou, Susan E. Golden, and Ashley A. Dunn, also worked on the project.

The Flea has been producing award-winning theater in downtown Manhattan for more than 20 years. Winner of two Obies, an Otto, and a Drama Desk for Outstanding Achievement, they are known as a premiere venue for cutting edge music and dance.

Venable is honored to support New York’s valued cultural institutions, such as The Flea, in realizing their development goals.
