Washington, D.C., November 28, 2000 -- Venable announced today the 2001 schedule for its highly rated new series of educational programs, "Emerging Issues for Bioscience Companies: Strategies for the Post-Genomic Era."

The program premiered on November 14 and covered a range of legal topics critical to bioscience companies - from financing and venture capital to building intellectual property portfolios. In future programs, presenters will narrow the focus and conduct a deeper examination of some of the industry's key issues.

The next program, "Seed Financing to IPO," will be held on Wednesday, February 7 at the Pooks Hill Marriott, Bethesda. Additionally, the following seminars have been scheduled:

  • Tuesday, March 6, "Accelerating Value in Intellectual Property,"
    Pooks Hill Marriott, Bethesda.

  • Thursday, May 10, "Employment Law Consideration,"
    Pooks Hill Marriott, Bethesda.

Presenters for the 2001 series will include members of Venable's technology group and bioscience strategic business unit as well as guest speakers from bioscience and other companies in the region. The series is geared to CEOs, COOs, CFOs, CSOs, general counsel, research directors, investors and business development and technology professionals.

"Venable has been involved with representation of life science companies for several years," explains Michael Schlesinger, a Venable partner and one of the attorneys who helped develop the series. "We've worked closely with the industry over the years, and we are committed to being proactive in assisting bioscience professionals by identifying legal and business issues that deserve examination. That is the focus of this series."

In the event of inclement weather, a scheduled Venable seminar or event will be postponed and re-scheduled if the federal government is closed for the day.
