Washington, D.C., 10/12/01 -- Venable announced today that Michele F. Crown has joined the firm as of counsel in the Food and Drug Practice. She will be resident in the Washington, D.C. office.
Ms. Crown concentrates on counseling small, medium and large corporations and associations in regulatory matters in the food, drug, cosmetics, consumer products and agriculture industries.
Prior to working at Venable, Ms. Crown was of counsel at Olsson, Frank & Weeds where she assisted corporate executives and company owners in developing and introducing new product lines and defending against regulatory challenges. She advised her clients primarily on federal, state and international regulation of product safety, marketing, production, advertising, labeling, trademark and other operations involving trade regulations before the Food & Drug Administration, Department of Agriculture, Federal Trade Commission, Consumer Product Safety Commission and Trademark Office.
Ms. Crown previously served as General Counsel at the American Meat Institute (AMI). In this role, she counseled the meat packing and processing industry, Board of Directors, officers and staff of the AMI on a wide range of legislation and regulations. Ms. Crown also testified and lobbied before Congress and administrative agencies on food safety (e.g. Delaney Clause), user fees, inspection, food labeling, and environmental issues, as well as coordinated lobbying efforts with other groups.
Ms. Crown is an active member of the FDLI (formerly the Food & Drug Law Institute), currently serving on the Academic Oversight Committee. She previously served on the FDLI's board of directors. She speaks often at regional and national seminars and workshops hosted by industry companies, media outlets and universities.
Ms. Crown obtained her J.D. degree from Brooklyn Law School and received her B.A. degree from Queens College. She is admitted to the District of Columbia and New York bars.
