Daniel E. Toomey Brings Construction Expertise to Venable's Northern Virginia Office

Washington, DC, March 6, 2002 . . . Venable is pleased to announce that Daniel E. Toomey has joined the firm's government contracts and construction law practices as a partner. Mr. Toomey is the former head of the Washington, DC construction practice of Thompson Hine LLP. Accompanying him is former Thompson Hine associate Tamara M. McNulty, who joins Venable as an associate. Mr. Toomey and Ms. McNulty will be resident in the firm's northern Virginia office.

Mr. Toomey has over 20 years of experience representing owners, general contractors, subcontractors, design professionals and sureties in courts and before arbitration panels nationally. He has successfully resolved numerous multi-million dollar construction-related disputes through mediation. Mr. Toomey also represents parties in white-collar criminal matters before grand juries and in federal district court.

Mr. Toomey is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, member and former president of the Assistant U.S. Attorneys' Association of the District of Columbia, and member of the Advisory Committee to the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. Mr. Toomey serves on the National Institute of Trial Advocacy faculty and as an adjunct professor at the Georgetown University Law Center, where he teaches Construction Contracts. In 1978, he co-founded the Georgetown/NITA Program in Trial Advocacy and continues as a Team Leader to the present.

Mr. Toomey had held office in the Public Contract Law Section and Forum on Construction of the American Bar Association. In addition, he has written and spoken regularly on construction, surety and white-collar criminal law matters.

Mr. Toomey received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and his B.S. from Saint Peters College. He is a member of the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia bars.

Ms. McNulty concentrates her practice in complex commercial litigation, with an emphasis in the areas of construction law, surety defense, contract law and general business litigation. She received her J.D. and B.A. from the University of Wisconsin. Ms. McNulty is a member of the District of Columbia, Virginia and Wisconsin bars.

Venable's northern Virginia office focuses on representing technology companies and government contractors and is one of the 10 largest law offices in northern Virginia, according to a recent Legal Times survey. The office recently relocated to 8010 Towers Crescent Drive in Vienna, Virginia.
