Washington, D.C.– The Legal Services Program of Whitman-Walker Clinic honored Venable LLP at its “Going the Extra Mile” benefit on Wednesday, March 24, 2004. Venable received the “Going the Extra Mile” Award for outstanding legal work on behalf of people living with HIV/AIDS.
Whitman-Walker Clinic is the primary community-based provider of HIV/AIDS services in the National Capital Area.
“We are so thrilled to recognize Venable for their ongoing work with us on behalf of people living with HIV,” said Laura M. Flegel, Director of the Legal Services Program at Whitman-Walker. “Their work with the Legal Services Program has been a partnership in the truest sense of the word. Venable stands out because they have chosen to get involved in so many aspects of our program. As a firm, Venable has committed to staffing both our Social Security Appeals Clinic and our Estate Planning Clinic on a regular basis. Individual Venable attorneys from both the D.C. and Northern Virginia offices have taken on additional pro bono cases in several of our practice areas and have served as volunteer attorney mentors in their areas of expertise. Finally, Venable has provided significant financial support through their participation in our premier fundraising events. Having a law firm take on such a far-reaching commitment to our program makes a tremendous difference to us and our clients.”
"We are honored to receive this award from the Whitman-Walker Clinic," said Gerard Treanor, Venable's Pro Bono Coordinator. "We admire Whitman-Walker's leadership in meeting the needs of people living with HIV/AIDS in our community and we hope in some small way to offer peace of mind to its clients. Venable looks forward to many more years of helping to improve the lives of individuals in our community."
Whitman-Walker Clinic Legal Services also honored Ms. Flegel at its "Going the Extra Mile" benefit. She received the Joel A. Toubin Memorial Award, which is presented to an individual for outstanding advocacy on behalf of people living with HIV/AIDS.
