WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 6, 2005) – The Washington Business Journal has selected Scott Hommer and Joseph Schmelter as finalists in their search for the Top Washington Lawyers. Finalists were selected from more than 350 nominations.
Mr. Hommer, co-chair of Venable's Government Contractor Services Group, is a finalist in the Government Contracts category. Mr. Hommer concentrates his practice on counseling technology companies and start-up businesses. He represents clients locally, nationally and internationally on issues including contract negotiation, acquisitions, intellectual property protection, and litigation. Mr. Hommer is active in the technology community and serves on the Executive Committee and the Senior Advisory Board of the Northern Virginia Technology Council and as General Counsel to the NVTC Foundation.
Mr. Schmelter, co-chair of Venable's Business Transactions and Government Contractor Services Groups, is a finalist in the Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions category. Mr. Schmelter concentrates his practice in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and general corporate representation. Through the first half of 2005, Venable's Government Contractor Services Group closed 10 M&A deals for government contractors − six of which were led by Mr. Schmelter.
