Washington, DC (October 6, 2005)—Venable LLP is pleased to announce that litigation partner, Robert L. Wilkins, has been awarded an Honor Alumni Award by the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
Located in Terre Haute, Indiana, Rose-Hulman is one of the nation’s top undergraduate engineering, science, and mathematics colleges. Each year, the college bestows the Honor Alumni Award to four alumni for their commitment and service to furthering the interests of Rose-Hulman; for their contributions to the national interest of the United States; and for their professional achievements.
Mr. Wilkins graduated cum laude from Rose-Hulman in 1986 with a B.S. in chemical engineering. In 1989, he received a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and upon graduation, joined the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia where he became “the office’s premier advocate for defendants’ rights,” according to the Legal Times.
Among his most significant accomplishments was his role in establishing the National Museum of African American History and Culture Plan for Action Presidential Commission and chairing the Site and Building Committee. His work on the Commission led to the passage of Public Law No. 108-184, which authorized the creation of the National Museum of African American History and Culture to be located on or adjacent to the National Mall as a part of the Smithsonian.
Today, Mr. Wilkins is a litigator in Venable’s corporate defense/white collar, technology and commercial litigation practice groups in Washington D.C. where he was recently selected one of the “40 under 40 most successful young litigators in America” by The National Law Journal.
