The November 6, 2008 edition of the Daily Telegraph, featured an article on policy changes expected under the Obama Administration. The article emphasized the importance of a smooth and speedy transition and outlined some major issues that will face President-elect Obama when he takes over a country with a looming budget deficit, swelling unemployment and a failing national infrastructure.
While Obama's first priority in office will be to address the failing economy, other issues, such as addressing union issues, are also on the table. According to the article, Obama has strong ties to the labor movement and backs the Employee Free Choice Act, which eliminates the free ballot in union elections. "If enacted, [the Act] will bring about the most revolutionary change in the law governing union organizing in the past 50 years," said Maurice Baskin, chair of Venable's Labor and Employment Practice Group.
