BALTIMORE, MD (April 21, 2009) – Venable LLP announced today that Craig A. Thompson, a partner in the firm’s Baltimore office, was named to The Daily Record’s 2009 list of “Influential Marylanders.” In addition to his distinguished litigation practice at Venable, Thompson is a well-known Baltimore media personality and speaker.

“I am, of course, honored to have my name listed with such an impressive group of Marylanders. Our state and country are much stronger because of their efforts,” said Thompson, who, in 2008, was named chair of Venable's Diversity Committee. “I am particularly proud to represent Venable as a recipient of this recognition, and will work hard to continue the firm's tradition of value-added service and community empowerment.”

The Daily Record selected the individuals on the 2009 “Influential Marylanders” list for their prominence and involvement in the community as well as their contributions and stature within their respective industries. Thompson is one of 60 Marylanders selected for this year’s honors.

“Craig is passionate about the welfare of others,” said Karl A. Racine, Venable’s managing partner. “His dynamic leadership is focused on ensuring that every person has the opportunity to better their lives. Venable and the State of Maryland are direct beneficiaries of Craig's heart and mind.”

Thompson is actively involved in diversity issues on the local, regional, and national levels. He authored a successful series of children's books titled The ABCs of Black History. He also frequently speaks to schools, churches, and educational organizations, including the National School Board Association, addressing topics such as the achievement gap in schools.

A 1995 graduate of The University of Maryland Law School, Thompson serves as a trustee of the school's foundation. He hosts a weekly current events radio show, "The Front Page," on WEAA-FM in Baltimore.

A special insert in the April 17, 2009 edition of The Daily Record honored The 2009 Influential Marylanders as will a ceremony on April 22 at the Grand Lodge in Cockeysville, Maryland.
