Venable plays key role in recent Sheryl Crow deal

Venable partners Bradford Cohen, Josh Kaufman and David Meyer, along with associate Bret Siciliano, recently advised singer Sheryl Crow on copyright transfer issues related to the sale of her song catalog to a private equity fund based in Ireland.

The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the sale last week, valued the deal at approximately $10 million.

Under the deal, First State Media Group acquired 153 songs released by Crow between 1993 and 2008 and secured the publishing rights to her next two albums.

Crow retains her songwriter's share of copyright, which means she will still participate in any upside revenue generated by her catalog under First State’s management.
