Greg Gill quoted in Law360 on what Democrats will look to accomplish during the lame duck session

Venable Partner Greg Gill was quoted in a November 12 Law360 article on the focus for Democratic leaders when Congress convenes for the upcoming lame duck session.

On the issue of funding for all government operations, Gill said that if a continuing resolution is the best Congress can do, the government will continue to be funded at fiscal year 2010 levels, cutting out some new initiatives and programs included in the FY 2011 budget plan.

He added, however, that individual appropriations bills or an omnibus measure may have more trouble passing in the challenging lame duck atmosphere.

Gill continued on to say, "The folks in charge now want to try to get as much done this session to preserve some of the programs they've funded and some of the initiatives of the administration."

He added, "In the next Congress, all bets are off, particularly with an influx of new Republican members who have pledged to pare back federal budgets."
