Washington, DC (May 12, 2011) – Venable LLP was recognized as one of Washington's top philanthropic companies by the Washington Business Journal (WBJ). The firm ranked seventh among area law firms for pro bono hours. WBJ's Corporate Philanthropy Awards honor the region's most active and inspirational companies and nonprofits who have made a difference in their communities through both financial and volunteer philanthropic work.

Venable is a signatory to the Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge, which calls upon law firms to devote a percentage of their billable hours to addressing the unmet legal needs of the poor and disadvantaged in the communities we serve.  The firm is proud to be recognized for its pro bono work, as it has increased its pro bono commitment by more than 45% since 2002.

Through pro bono work, the firm's charitable foundation, and community service, Venable attorneys and staff make tremendous contributions to the communities in which they live and work.  They engage in a wide variety of activities centered around community service, ranging from volunteering at legal clinics and schools, to providing pro bono legal counsel to needy individuals and families, to serving on the boards of hospitals, public interest groups, religious institutions, educational institutions and other valuable community organizations.

Venable's commitment to social responsibility is funded entirely via contributions from the firm's attorneys. The firm maintains one of the Mid-Atlantic region's largest corporate philanthropic foundations—the Venable Foundation—which in 2009 provided more than $2 million in support to organizations and programs throughout our communities. The value of these activities to the firm cannot be overestimated.
