Venable partner George Constantine was quoted in the December 1, 2011 issue of Association & Non-Profit Bisnow on the DC Nonprofit Corporation Act which governs nonprofits incorporated in Washington, DC. The new law is set to go into effect next year.
Noting that the law offers more opportunities than restriction, Constantine said, “I don't see a lot of oh shoot, we can't do this anymore.” Constantine recommended “that non-profits review their articles of incorporation and bylaws and make any necessary changes at least within the early part of next year.” He added that “such reviews are a best practice anyway to make sure the organization is up to date not just with the law but also their own current practices.”
