Venable partner Justin Pierce was quoted by the Star News Online in an April 26, 2012 article on the counterfeiting of everyday goods. Due to the struggling economy, counterfeiters are turning their attention away from luxury items and to more everyday products with prices similar to the name brand in an effort to attract customers.
While counterfeiters are turning their attention to more mainstream products, Pierce says counterfeiters will continue to focus on higher end items. “Despite the trend toward everyday brands, counterfeiters are not likely to abandon the luxury sector anytime soon because of the potential for big profit,” said Pierce. “You will not see a drop off in at least attempts to counterfeit higher-end brands because from a business perspective, there's a higher margin to be made.”
