Venable partner Rosewin Sweeney was quoted in an April 22, 2012 article in The Daily Record on hiring trend for first-year associates. Venable plans to increase the number of first-year associates in the fall and increase the starting salary. This follows a two to three year trend in which law firms cut back on hiring first-year associates, lowered salaries, or deferred start dates.

Commenting on Venable’s hiring plans, Sweeney said, “It’s to stay competitive in the marketplace in terms of attracting talent.” Sweeney added that Venable plans to continue hiring first-year associates even if the group is smaller than previous years. “It’s good to have talented people at all levels of experience…It’s good to have that kind of energy that a new lawyer brings,” said Sweeney.
