In a 12-0 vote, the Washington, DC City Council approved emergency legislation allowing Venable client Monumental Sports and Entertainment, headed by Ted Leonsis, owner of the Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards, and the Verizon Center, to seek permits to erect as many as nine new digital and static signs on the Verizon Center. The signs are expected to generate up to $8 million in tax revenue for the city over a five year span. News of the DC Council’s vote was featured in the Washington Times on July 10, 2012.

Venable partners Bill Hall and Claude Bailey have represented Monumental Sports and Entertainment on the matter since September 2011. Randall Boe, Executive Vice President & General Counsel of Monumental Sports and Entertainment, said Hall and Bailey "did a fabulous job" while Leonis added "great work" on the matter.
