Washington, DC (August 15, 2013) – Best Lawyers®, the oldest and most respected peer-review publication in the legal profession, has named Venable Environmental Practice Group Chair Douglas H. Green as the Environmental Law "Lawyer of the Year" in Washington, DC. Mr. Green was also recognized in the Litigation - Environmental section of the 2014 edition of The Best Lawyers in America© (Copyright 2013 by Woodward/White, Inc., of Aiken, SC). This is the third consecutive year Mr. Green has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America©.
Best Lawyers® began designating “Lawyers of the Year” in the United States in high-profile legal practice areas in 2009. Only one attorney in each practice area and designated metropolitan area is honored as a “Lawyer of the Year,” making the recognition particularly significant. Mr. Green’s practice focuses on complex administrative and appellate litigation, enforcement defense, and compliance counseling under the nation's environmental statutes. He serves as lead counsel for the Utility Solid Waste Activities Group (USWAG), an association consisting of more than 110 energy industry operating companies and trade associations. For more than 25 years, he has represented USWAG on solid and hazardous waste and chemical compliance, reporting, and enforcement issues arising under the full spectrum of federal and many state environmental laws. He also represents clients in a variety of commercial sectors, including the chemical, building and forest products, waste management, utility, and pharmaceutical industries, on compliance, strategic planning, and enforcement defense matters. Additionally, Mr. Green and Venable’s Environmental Group were highly ranked in the latest edition of Chambers USA for Environment in the District of Columbia.
Mr. Green was one of seven Venable attorneys named “Lawyers of the Year.” Also recognized were Co-Managing Partner Robert L. Waldman, Baltimore Non-Profit/Charities Law; Bryson L.
