Baltimore, MD (August 20, 2013) – Best Lawyers®, the oldest and most respected peer-review publication in the legal profession, has named Venable LLP partner Richard L. Wasserman as the Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law “Lawyer of the Year” in Baltimore. Mr. Wasserman was also recognized in the Bet-the-Company Litigation and Litigation - Bankruptcy sections of the 2014 edition of The Best Lawyers in America© (Copyright 2013 by Woodward/White, Inc., of Aiken, SC). This is the 20th consecutive year Mr. Wasserman has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America©.

A Fellow in the American College of Bankruptcy and a past president of the Bankruptcy Bar Association for the District of Maryland, Mr. Wasserman is the senior member of Venable’s Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights Group which was ranked Tier 1 for Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights / Insolvency and Reorganization Law and Litigation - Bankruptcy in Baltimore by U.S. News-Best Lawyers "Best Law Firms" in 2013. He focuses his practice on matters involving bankruptcy and bankruptcy-related litigation, creditors’ rights, secured transactions, workouts, reorganizations and restructurings. Mr. Wasserman has extensive experience representing clients in major business, commercial and real estate bankruptcy, workout and reorganization matters and has served as a Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 bankruptcy trustee, as a court-appointed examiner and as a mediator in bankruptcy adversary proceedings and claims resolution proceedings. Mr. Wasserman graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University in 1970 and received his J.D. in 1973 from Columbia University School of Law.
