Venable partner Mitch Mirviss was quoted in a September 24, 2013 Daily Record article on the opening of Legal Aid’s new office in Rockville, Maryland. A private, nonprofit, and multi-funded law firm, Legal Aid provides free legal services to low income individuals throughout Maryland. Since opening in April, the new office has opened 400 new cases hopes to add more attorneys to its staff.
The article noted that from 2007 to 2010, the poverty rate in Montgomery County increased by three percent. “There's significant economic distress,” said Mirviss who is a former staff attorney with Legal Aid and continues to work closely with the organization. “It's important to see the state's premier poverty law center address those issues head on.” Speaking about the new office which staff attorneys say has the feel of a real law firm, Mirviss said “Clients are emboldened to stick with their claims and they have confidence in their attorneys…Appearances matter.”
