In 2012, Venable gave $888,705 in cash donations to Baltimore nonprofits including Maryland Food Bank, Enoch Pratt Free Library and House of Ruth Maryland. Waldman explained that Venable feels “a sense of obligation to the cities where our attorneys and staff live.”
During recruiting, senior level partners frequently ask about the firm’s philanthropic contributions. “It says a lot about who we are as a firm, what we value and the people who work here,” said Waldman, adding “I think it is a distinguishing factor for us.”
When choosing which organizations to donate to, Waldman said “the overriding theme is organizations that make our community a better place.”
