Skilled in political strategy, with a demonstrated ability to advance the agendas and legislation of business and trade organizations.

Washington, DC – March 21, 2016 – Expanding its bipartisan Legislative and Government Affairs practice, Venable LLP announced the addition of Peggy Hudson as a Senior Legislative Advisor in its Washington, DC office. Ms. Hudson joins the firm from the Direct Marketing Association (DMA), the world's largest trade association dedicated to advancing and protecting responsible data-driven marketing.

For over three decades, Ms. Hudson has successfully represented the business interests of leading trade associations and private companies on Capitol Hill and before the Administration. She is known for her ability to build relationships at all levels and for her skill at framing issues and delivering results. Her success has been recognized by Washingtonian magazine, which named her to its list of "Top 100 Women Leaders," and Washington Life magazine, which named her among "The Power of 100."

While working as the Senior Vice President, Government Affairs at the DMA, Ms. Hudson lobbied state, federal, and regulatory government entities and the White House on issues affecting the data-driven marketing industry, including postal matters, privacy, data security and data breach, tax, mobile tracking, data brokers, and EU-Safe Harbor. She managed and directed the ongoing DMA Strategic Plan, coordinated legislative and regulatory initiatives and media relations, and served as treasurer of the DMA Political Action Committee. Prior to DMA, she was the President and CEO of Hudson Global Strategies, LLC, a consulting firm representing clients in strategic planning, public policy, business development, and government affairs.

In the private sector, Ms. Hudson worked for BP America as Vice President, Federal and International Affairs. In this role, she managed BP's federal government relations strategy, successfully leading the company's efforts on three comprehensive energy bills and legislation supporting the Alaska Gas Pipeline, and developed relationships with international diplomats and world leaders.

Ms. Hudson also worked as Vice President, Legislative Affairs for the American Portland Cement Alliance and as a Senior Legislative Representative for the National Federation of Independent Business. She began her career as an aide to former U.S. Senator Ernest F. Hollings (D-SC), a role in which she focused on military casework.

"Peggy knows the ins and outs of Washington, and most importantly she knows how to get things done," said former U.S. Senator Mark L. Pryor, Chair of Venable's Legislative and Government Affairs practice. "Throughout her career, Peggy has developed a sophisticated understanding of political strategy and a demonstrated ability to further industry agendas by working within the public policy process. She has an unparalleled track record when it comes to advocating for her clients, and we’re very excited about the skills she brings to our team."

Added Ms. Hudson, "I've known and worked with many professionals at Venable during my time at DMA, and I have come to truly respect and admire the firm. They understand what it takes to navigate the hurdles and roadblocks of Washington's various regulatory and administrative agencies."

At Venable, Ms. Hudson joins a bipartisan team that includes former U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak (D-MI), former Secretary of Transportation James H. Burnley, IV, former NHTSA Administrator David L. Strickland, and several veteran Capitol Hill legislative staffers and policy advisors from both sides of the aisle. National Law Journal named the group one of the top 20 lobbying firms in its most recent "Influence 50" rankings.

Ms. Hudson graduated from Kings College in Charlotte, NC.
