Venable partner Bart Stupak was quoted in a December 15, 2016, National Journal article on the Republican's plans to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA). While Democrats are not expected to take part in the law's repeal, some have indicated they might be open to the Republican's plans for a replacement. Any repeal of the law is expected to be spread out over several years to give Congress time to work on and implement a replacement plan.
Stupak, a former Michigan congressman who played a key role in passing the ACA, said red-state Democrats would be "foolish" to take part in the law’s repeal because it "greatly benefits rural hospitals and community health centers."
