Nationally ranked and pioneering practice previously won this award for cutting-edge legal work
Washington, DC (April 26, 2017) – Venable LLP is pleased to announce that it has been short-listed for the coveted Chambers USA Award for Excellence in the Privacy and Data Security category. Each year, Chambers USA, one of the nation's leading guides to law firms and attorneys, presents the Award for Excellence at the conclusion of its annual research process. The award recognizes the one firm performing the most cutting-edge legal work in a particular area of law. Venable is one of eight firms nationwide short-listed in this category. Winners will be announced on Thursday, May 25, in New York City.
Chambers has consistently recognized the group among the top-ranked practices in the country for years. In its most recent editorial commentary, Chambers singled out the group for "handling a diverse range of complex matters across an array of sectors, including retail, financial services or communications." It also noted that the group is continually "sought for its advice and understanding of the latest developments in the market."
Individually, Co-Head of the practice Stuart P. Ingis is ranked in Band 1 nationally for his "impressive marketing, privacy and internet law practice," with a particular strength in "advertising and e-commerce," and his "experience in dealing with federal and state bodies." Chambers also touts practice Co-Head Emilio W. Cividanes for his "wealth of cybersecurity and privacy experience," calling him a "good choice of counsel for work concerning cross-border data breaches," and for advising "multinational clients on compliance with international privacy obligations."
Venable has had a successful history with the Chambers USA Award for Excellence, with several practices being short-listed in recent years. The Privacy and Data Security Group previously won the award in 2009, after which the category was retired until last year. The firm's Advertising and Marketing Group won the award in both 2010 and 2011. The category has since been retired.
