Washington, DC (August 24, 2017) – Charles J. Morton, Jr., the Co-Chair of Venable's Corporate Practice Group, has been inducted to Legal 500 inaugural Hall of Fame as one of two middle-market deal lawyers in the U.S. representing clients in M&A transactions of under $500M. The Hall of Fame recognition highlights, to clients, the law firm partners who have received consistent praise by their clients for continued excellence. The criteria for entry is to have been recognized by the Legal 500 as one of the elite "Leading Lawyers" for six consecutive years.
"Chuck has always been dedicated to client service and excellence and goes beyond the call of duty for those he serves. We are proud of his recognition," said Robert L. Waldman, Chair of the firm's Business Division.
Mr. Morton's practice focuses on the healthcare, technology, and consumer products industries, where he represents privately held, middle-market business, and PE funds. He is well known as a leader in the middle-market deal communities. He is the past chair of the global board of the Association for Corporate Growth. In that role, he was integral to the formation of a bipartisan Congressional Caucus for Middle Market Growth, educating policymakers and leaders on the economic impact of the middle market and how it functions as a powerful driver for economic growth. He also championed ACG's international expansion. He served as chair of the board of the Technology Development Corporation of Maryland, often the most active early stage investor in the US. His efforts to fuel economic growth are further reflected in his service to Bio-Health Innovation, Inc. and Springboard Enterprises, which Venable has served as counsel for more than a decade.
"I am honored to be recognized in this way; however, such accolades are always more about the team that surrounds those being singled out," said Morton. "I am lucky to be surrounded by talented colleagues. Together we do our best to build on the legacy of excellence we have inherited at Venable."
Mr. Morton's practice reflects his passion. For example, he recently served as the U.S.-based counsel for Redwood Capital, a technology, media, and communications investment bank, when it merged with Europe-based LD&A Jupiter to form a large global, multi-country investment banking firm, Drake Star Partners. The merger brought together a combined track record of 274 transactions since 2004.
Mr. Morton is recognized personally in Chambers USA, USNWR, and many other publications. Under his leadership, the firm's Corporate/M&A practice is recognized in Band 1 nationally in Chambers USA and Tier 1 nationally in Legal 500.
