Second New York City Nonprofit Attorney to Join the Practice in Recent Months
New York, NY (September 5, 2017) – Venable LLP is pleased to announce the addition of Anne K. Gerson to its Nonprofit Organizations Practice as counsel in both its New York and Washington, DC offices. Ms. Gerson joins the firm from Carter Ledyard & Milburn LLP in New York City, where she was counsel.
Ms. Gerson focuses her practice on representing nonprofit organizations, including public charities, private foundations, religious organizations, trade associations, educational organizations, arts organizations, social clubs, and other nonprofits. She counsels and advises clients on federal tax issues such as domestic and international grant-making, self-dealing and excess benefit transactions, obtaining and maintaining tax-exempt status, unrelated business income tax, excess business holdings, program-related investments, lobbying and political activity, IRS audits, state law issues, contracts, intellectual property, and corporate governance matters, among others.

At Venable, Ms. Gerson joins a Nonprofit Organizations Practice that serves more than 700 nonprofit clients nationwide. It has the country's largest concentration of attorneys providing counsel and advocacy for charities, foundations, trade and professional associations, think tanks, arts and cultural institutions, schools, advocacy groups, and other nonprofit organizations.

Ms. Gerson received a J.D. and LL.M. from the New York University School of Law as a Tax Policy Fellow, and a B.A. magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania. In 2015, Ms. Gerson received the Outstanding Young Nonprofit Lawyer Award from the American Bar Association, Business Law Section, Nonprofit Organizations Committee.
Ms. Gerson is the second New York nonprofit attorney this year to join Venable's Nonprofit Organizations Practice. Associate Ryan Kasdin recently joined the practice from the New York office of Simpson Thacher, where he worked in the firm's tax-exempt organizations practice. Mr. Kasdin is now resident in the Venable's Washington, DC office.
