On October 4, 2019, Jim Burnley was featured on Roads & Bridges' podcast, Infrastructure Insider, where he discussed the recent Federal Highway Administration repeal of a rule prohibiting the use of proprietary materials on federally funded construction projects.
"The process to get approval from the Federal Highway Administration was so convoluted that it was a very effective deterrent to states considering buying new and innovative products that would make our roads safer, make them less congested, and make them more resilient," said Burnley. "By eliminating the federal review process, it frees up state DOTs to use their own decision-making and procurement processes to consider whatever products they wish to buy, whether protected by intellectual property rights or not."
