For more than 20 years, Ms. Tavares has counseled clients on a wide breadth of employee benefits matters. She advises both private and public employers on all areas related to the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), and her practice regularly includes the administration of pension and welfare plans. Ms. Tavares also has extensive regulatory experience in representing clients on compliance issues with the Treasury Department, Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Department of Labor (DOL), and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC). Prior to joining Venable, she spent five years as an attorney with the IRS Office of Chief Counsel, National Office, where she concentrated on qualified plan issues under examination and in litigation.
