On January 11, 2022, Friedemann Thomma was quoted in Bloomberg Law on merger and acquisition activity in Europe.
According to the article, technology and life sciences industries, as well as private equity transactions, drove M&A in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region during a record-breaking $5 trillion year. The top 20 deal-making firms in Europe worked on a total of $1.4 trillion in transactions last year. Private equity deals reached $2.1 trillion globally in 2021, and in Europe the top 20 firms worked on nearly $864 billion worth of PE deals.
“It used to be that we have all these private equity funds that acquire European companies, and very rarely did we have European PE funds doing the acquiring,” said Thomma. “That paradigm has shifted. There’s so much cash chasing deals.”
