“The marketplace gives us far better answers as a society when it is allowed to function freely,” said Mr. Burnley. “Safety has to be the primary goal of any significant transportation operation. Once you have accepted that and you live that way and operate that way, then the federal government and state government and city government should get out of your way on the commercial side and let you figure out what makes sense in the marketplace. I think that combination has served this country enormously well over the last four decades.”
