In a Law360 article, “Calif. Takes AI Reins with Looming Safety, Transparency Laws”, Davis Hake was interviewed for his response to SB 1047, the Safe and Secure Innovation for Frontier Artificial Intelligence Models Act, and AB 2013, a bill related to training data transparency for generative AI.
The growing interest in legislating on AI is being primarily driven by "the generative AI boom," which "has really woken people up to the large dependence we have on AI technology already," and by states' desire "to establish precedent and leadership on AI," noted Davis Hake, senior director for cybersecurity services at Venable LLP.
"While we've seen really substantive work on these topics already, it can be inconsistent, and a rush to legislate rarely results in policy that stands the test of time," Hake said.
