According to the AP,last year, Biden signed a sweeping AI executive order, and this year, he formed the new AI Safety Institute at the National Institute for Standards and Technology, which is part of the Commerce Department. However, President-elect Trump has vowed to repeal President Joe Biden’s signature artificial intelligence policy once he returns to office.
While many industry and policy experts are concerned about the potential changes to AI safety, it remains unclear how much the president-elect will change.
West told the AP, “There’s no reason to believe that we’ll be doing a 180 when it comes to the work of the AI Safety Institute.” Behind the rhetoric, there’s already been overlap, she said.
