On December 9, 2024, ALM quoted Adrienne Gurley on incoming SEC Chair Paul Atkins’ regulatory philosophy and the impacts that American companies can expect. According to the article, “Atkins’ pro-business regulatory philosophy is clear and consistent.”
While Atkins served as SEC commissioner from 2002 to 2008, he consistently opposed large penalties for companies accused of fraud. “I do think his focus and his priorities [as chairman] will keep in mind the financial burden that will be imposed on companies,” Gurley shared.
Following his tenure, Atkins criticized several components of the 2010 Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. He has also continued to make a name for himself as a cryptocurrency advocate.
“It appears that there's an alignment in what we understand some of Atkins' positions to be with what President-elect Trump has signaled,” added Gurley.
