On March 21, 2025, Global Competition Review quoted William Vigen on the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) only remaining criminal labor case. The case concerns an individual accused of conspiring with two competing healthcare agencies to reduce workers’ compensations.
According to the article, the case is scheduled to be tried later this month with the Antitrust Division seeking, “its first jury conviction.” Vigen, a former Antitrust Division attorney, explained that “this is this DOJ’s ‘last chance’ to demonstrate it can persuade a jury to convict a defendant of labor collusion for the foreseeable future.”
“The Antitrust Division has put significant resources behind the prosecution, underscoring how important the Division believes this case is,” he added.
Notably, Global Competition Review reported that this case is the first criminal antitrust trial under Assistant Attorney General Gail Slater, following her recent confirmation.
