On May 6, 2025, Law360 quoted Ariel Wolf on recent developments regarding autonomous vehicle regulations and policy. According to the article, some experts say that these changes “are positive, momentum-building steps” for the industry.
“It's a great sign to see the energy and excitement to promote the safe commercialization of autonomous vehicles in the U.S.,” explained Wolf. “In some respects, it's a reiteration and also a statement of principles that's really boiling it down to the essentials. First and foremost, to prioritize safety … and then unleashing innovation and enabling commercial deployment. I think those [latter two] are the two that frankly, over the past number of years, they needed the most work from a regulatory perspective."
Law360 reported that this “regulatory momentum also comes amid a growing number of partnerships between technology developers, ride-hailing companies and automakers.”
“The industry has almost overcompensated by under promising,” Wolf said. “But look at this year, 2025, and you have robotaxis scaling and expanding into a dozen cities. You have autonomous commercial driverless operation in Texas, and probably will be expanding to other states. Those things were out there as the promise of what AVs can do and it becomes economies of scale. If you can start commercializing that, 2025 will be the year that autonomous vehicles become mainstream and potentially even ubiquitous.”
