On June 21, 2025, Venable partner Jim Sawtelle was elected vice president of the Iowa Law School Foundation (ILSF) by his fellow board members. The ILSF helps shape the legal education provided to students at the University of Iowa College of Law. The ILSF drives the law school’s strategy in key areas such as alumni relations, fundraising, endowment management, and program support. For nearly a decade, Mr. Sawtelle has served the ILSF board of directors as an executive committee member.
Mr. Sawtelle, partner-in-charge of Venable’s Denver office, is an experienced trial attorney who practices at the intersection of commercial litigation and intellectual property. He has been a trusted advisor for his clients—which range from individuals to Fortune 500 companies—for more than three decades. The culmination of his vast experience is a track record of significant wins throughout the United States. Whether he is in the courtroom or a client’s boardroom, Mr. Sawtelle is a proven advocate with a results-driven approach to legal services.
