The Maryland Daily Record profiled Venable Partner Liz Stieff as one of its 2025 Leading Women Under 40, an honor celebrating women who demonstrate outstanding professional achievements, community involvement, and a commitment to inspiring change.
Reflecting on her practice, Stieff shared, “I find that many people hold unfavorable stereotypes about tax professionals, that we are overly technical, unable to explain the tax code in layman’s terms, and disconnected from practical realities. I pride myself on breaking down those barriers and empowering my clients to make educated decisions and understand the practical (tax and non-tax) implications of those decisions.”
Stieff also spoke about a milestone in her career, stating, “My most significant professional accomplishment has been making partner at a large law firm in a male-dominated practice area (transactional tax) after just welcoming my twin daughters the year prior.”
At Venable, Ms. Stieff focuses her practice on tax advisory and planning matters for domestic entities and individuals. She regularly provides transactional tax advice on a range of matters, including mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, private equity transactions, and fund formation. She also works with clients on business formation and operational issues, including choice of entity, capital raises, equity incentive planning, and the like. In addition, Ms. Stieff has experience working with clients to structure investments and transactions involving real estate investment trusts and qualified opportunity zone funds.
