On March 11, Kostas Katsiris was recognized by the New York state legislature for his contributions to the Greek-American community. New York State Senator Andrew Gounardes presented him with a proclamation at a ceremony attended by Archbishop Elpidophoros, the head of the Greek Orthodox Church in the Americas, as well as five Greek-American legislators from New York state.
“I was truly humbled to be honored by the New York state legislature yesterday in Albany as part of a Greek Independence Day celebration,” Mr. Katsiris said. “My parents came to the United States in the 1970s as immigrants and settled in Michigan. They were brilliant but had limited education - my father worked until his retirement as a factory worker for General Motors, and my mother worked in a department store. The values I absorbed from my parents and heritage have helped me build a career in a demanding profession, for which I am grateful.”
