On April 22, Retail TouchPoints quoted Ashley Craig on tariff refunds and their potential impact.
The article explains that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has launched a new Consolidated Administration and Processing of Entries online portal, allowing importers to claim refunds on tariffs ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.
Discussing the scope of those refunds, Craig noted, “The initial tranche is $130 billion… but when you factor in all the phases of these, it could reach $140 to $160 billion or more.”
The portal is already experiencing heavy demand, with payments expected to begin within 60–90 days. At the same time, broader U.S. tariff policy remains uncertain, as Craig emphasized that “The tariff situation remains highly volatile and highly fluid.”
Despite early demand, Craig observed that the rollout has exceeded expectations: “[CBP] has exceeded everyone’s expectations… They’re not known for meeting deadlines for automation, but they seem to have nailed this one.”
