Accounting and Finance

Our Accounting and Finance department manages all aspects of the firm’s financial operations and strategy to ensure sustainable growth and value. Members of the team work in the areas of billing and collections, financial planning and analysis, general ledger and financial reporting, employee payroll and compensation, insurance, credit facility, and treasury management.

Attorney/Legal Administrative Support

Our administrative professionals work closely with firm attorneys and other revenue generators to support the administrative life cycle of client work. Team members support the client life cycle by producing documents, managing projects, ensuring the accuracy of time and expenses, and creating reports.

Business Operations

Our Business Operations teams ensure our business and legal professionals have the facilities and resources necessary to do their very best work. These teams are responsible for office administration, facilities management, procurement, business operations, vendor management, document services, and records management.

Litigation Docketing

Our Litigation Docketing department provides calendaring support for the firm’s clients by tracking matters, and the associated deadlines, in both federal and state courts, including appellate, arbitration, mediation, agency, and bankruptcy matters. The team provides research support and expertise to the firm’s attorneys related to judge, court, and agency rules and requirements to ensure a complete and accurate docket. Professionals follow strict best practices and procedures in all calendaring processes to mitigate risk for our clients and the firm, while maximizing client services and business success.

Conflicts and Compliance

Our Conflicts and Compliance teams support the intake of new client work and the firm’s responsibility for legal and ethical compliance in our business operations. This group of business professionals participates in the evaluation of new engagements by ensuring conformity with business and ethical standards, and compliance with firm, client, and government guidelines.

Intellectual Property Practice Support

Our IP support teams assist Venable’s intellectual property (IP) practitioners in the comprehensive administration of U.S. and foreign patent, trademark, copyright, domain name, IP litigation, and IP transactional matters for our worldwide client base. Our IP support team members specialize in all facets of filing and prosecution, including associated defensive actions, and manage the firm’s IP docketing system.

Research and Knowledge Services

Our Research and Knowledge Services team supports our legal and business professionals through legal research, access to business and industry information, expert witness investigations, and scientific research. By combining traditional library services with advanced digital tools, our dedicated team of information professionals bolsters the firm’s ability to deliver high-quality legal services efficiently and fulfills our mission to provide the best in research tools, training, and support to attorneys.

Human Resources

Our Human Resources department supports the employment life cycle for non-lawyer business professionals and provides comprehensive benefits support for the entire firm. HR team members support the firm’s guiding principles through internal business partnerships, talent acquisition and management, compensation management, employment law compliance, performance coaching, and evolving our benefit offerings to support a growing and diverse workforce.

Information Technology and Security

Our Information Technology and Security teams provide a wealth of services to the firm, ensuring technology solutions align with the firm’s goals and objectives. As a department, professionals focus on fostering a culture of customer-experience excellence, innovation, and digital transformation within the firm. Teams work in the areas of network infrastructure, user applications, IT operations, business intelligence, and security.

Practice Technologies

The Practice Technologies team offers a range of crucial services to bolster legal proceedings. This department manages electronic discovery, ensuring the proper collection, review, and production of electronic documents. They provide data analysis and management, assisting legal teams in interpreting complex information and presenting it effectively in court, thus enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the litigation process. Practice Technologies offers tailored technology and workflow solutions to support the unique needs of other practice groups.

Legal Personnel and Attorney Recruiting

The Legal Personnel and Attorney Recruiting department oversees all aspects of human resources management for the firm’s revenue-generating professionals. The Recruiting team focuses on attracting and integrating all legal professionals. They also manage the firm’s Summer Associate Program and maintain engagement with law schools. The Legal Personnel team is responsible for operational support and data management for all legal professionals, with a focus on fostering an environment that prioritizes professional growth and a high-touch service to the practice.

Marketing and Business Development

Our Marketing and Business Development team shares a common goal—to help our timekeepers deliver a seamless, end-to-end client experience that maximizes value. Our professionals design and execute promotional strategies that resonate with the evolving priorities and needs of prospective clients through the client experience journey, from initial awareness to the decision to purchase legal services.

Practice Management

Venable’s Practice Management team works as strategic advisors on matters regarding client pricing, commercial and business analytics, elevated client service and legal project management, and practice operations. In addition to supporting the operational management of our practice groups via commercial and performance insights, Practice Management is also responsible for developing and implementing a robust associate staffing and assignment program. The department’s pricing function offers creative pricing solutions to our clients while maintaining positive commercial health for the firm and its partners.
