Many associations are at a crossroads. Learning unique and effective ideas utilized by some for bringing in new sources of non-dues revenue – along with their legal implications – can address challenges such as escalating costs or membership stagnation. Experienced association counsel share perspectives on the intellectual property, unrelated business income, liability, antitrust, and tax considerations in affinity, endorsement, joint venture, and other non-dues-revenue-generating arrangements, and offer suggestions for managing associations’ legal risks.
