Geolocation data supports a range of exciting products and services, but has also raised privacy questions. In this Quick Hit, Venable attorneys will provide an up-to-the-minute overview of the evolving legal and policy landscape for commercial use of geolocation data. We will discuss existing and emerging industry standards for handling and marketing with geolocation data. In addition, we will review recent developments on the federal policy front, including the Commerce Department’s initiative to develop new industry codes of conduct for transparency in mobile apps, which kicks off on July 12.
