Harry Atlas presented "Overcome the Increased Scrutiny of Your Organization's Retirement Plan" at ASAE's Finance, HR & Business Operations Conference in Washington, DC on April 30, 2013.
The Department of Labor (DOL) has recently added more than 1,000 employees primarily tasked with auditing retirement plan sponsors. The DOL has also been very active on the regulatory front, with new fee disclosure requirements recently taking effect and additional rules addressing fiduciary status of investment advisors, lifetime income from defined contribution plans, and target dates funds on the horizon. Discuss the actions plan sponsors are taking to protect their organizations and themselves against the increasing risks associated with offering an employer-sponsored retirement plan. Gain insights on how to implement an effective plan oversight program, evaluate retirement plan fees, and negotiate contracts with various plan service providers.
