Kevin Shepherd presented "The Perfect Storm: GTOs, Beneficial Ownership Disclosure, and Federal Lawyer Regulation!" to the Bar Association of Montgomery County, Maryland on May 10, 2016. This presentation dealt with the recent geographic targeting orders issued by US Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, renewed legislative efforts to mandate disclosure of beneficial ownership interests in various entities, and increased domestic and international pressure to impose anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing obligations on the US legal profession. Kevin chairs the ABA’s inter-sectional Working Group on Anti-Money Laundering/Counter-Terrorist Financing Efforts Affecting Lawyers.
