More than 20 years ago, Judy Shepard lost her son Matthew to a murder motivated by anti-gay hate. Please join us for a conversation with Judy about how she and her husband turned their unspeakable grief over their son’s death into a powerful advocacy for all marginalized groups. Judy will discuss her efforts to promote equality for the LGBTQ+ community, to advocate for state and federal hate crime legislation, and to carry on her son’s legacy through the Matthew Shepard Foundation. Having drawn on her own grief to make a difference, Judy will also share her thoughts about what each of us can do to make our society more accepting of everyone, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
