As nonprofit organizations consider adopting new platforms and systems to further their organization’s mission and goals, understanding the processes for acquiring these innovative services is paramount. When evaluating these technology solutions, it is crucial to evaluate the contracts and licenses that are involved, especially the obligations and liabilities that may arise under these contracts with respect to third parties. During this presentation, we will examine common provisions and major legal issues in complex intellectual property contracts and data transactions, as well as the legal requirements that may apply to the use of personal and other proprietary data. These are issues that all nonprofits, and those that work with such organizations, need to consider and be aware of as the number and diversity of data onboarding and processing services continue to grow.
