Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS) are energy performance requirements that existing buildings must meet over time. This is a tool to decarbonize buildings through reduced energy use and emissions. These programs typically include a benchmarking period, and then the covered buildings have several years to reduce emissions to meet the identified minimum threshold performance. The Biden administration has put together a coalition of state and local governments that have committed to design and implement BEPS policies. These jurisdictions represent approximately 20% of the nation’s building stock, and the locations of the member jurisdictions are coast to coast. The goal of the National BEPS Coalition is to advance relevant legislation within each member jurisdiction by Earth Day 2024. For commercial and multi-family buildings, throughout the United States, this is an emerging area of regulation. This webinar will provide an overview of the regulations and identify key issues related to implementation and compliance.
