What You Need to Know About Privacy Heading into 2025, from Legal Trends to State Privacy Laws and Other Risks

Venable partner Mike Signorelli and associate Nana-Kwabena Abrefah will present a Lexology webinar, “What You Need to Know About Privacy Heading into 2025, from Legal Trends to State Privacy Laws & Other Risks,” on October 30.

This webinar will help you take stock of privacy legal developments in 2024 and prepare for upcoming privacy laws and items to watch for in 2025. Members of Venable’s industry-leading Privacy and Data Security Group will walk you through highlights of 2024 privacy trends—such as litigation involving New Jersey’s Daniel’s Law or the status of private rights of action in consumer privacy laws, and a rise in registries for certain entities. Additionally, 10 states will have consumer privacy laws in effect by the end of 2024, and 2025 is set to nearly double that number. Venable’s team will clarify how these new laws differ from the existing landscape.

Venable will help you understand (1) key elements of existing state privacy law requirements; (2) priority areas that someone subject to state laws may consider as we approach 2025, such as how to handle opt-outs; (3) a forecast of 2025 legislative trends; (4) how privacy enforcement, particularly of rights requests, via private right of action has affected industry and could expand; and (5) practical responses to regulator inquiries about registering an entity for certain data practices.
