Overview

Interacting with government officials, candidates, and political organizations is a highly regulated area of the law. This course will provide an introduction to the federal rules that govern political activity and government interactions, including campaign finance law under the Federal Election Campaign Act, federal lobbying disclosure requirements, and federal gift and ethics rules. This course, presented by Ronald Jacobs, a co-chair of Venable’s Political Law Group, and Ashleigh Allione, introduces political compliance issues and serves as the springboard for the other courses in this series.

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Identify and navigate the parameters of the Federal Election Campaign Act and supporting candidates for federal office 
  2. Identify triggers for when federal lobbying registration and reporting are required and how to complete reports
  3. Discuss how to host events with federal officials and legally provide food and travel
